Outside Lies Magic

The Stranger in the Woods

Sometimes the risk to remain tight in a bud is more work than the courage it takes to blossom. - Anais Nin

Whatever you do in life, yoga shows you how to do it better. The universe is always giving us a message.  Yoga helps us learn to listen. - Chuck Miller

Nona Chiang, E-RYT, initially discovered yoga as a teenager growing up in New York City.  In 1999, she began practicing regularly with Natasha Rizopoulos at YogaWorks in Santa Monica, CA.  She later studied Ashtanga yoga with Chuck Miller, completed the school’s teacher training program with Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford, and earned her YogaWorks teaching certification.  In 2004, Nona traveled to India to study Ashtanga yoga with the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath.  Nona holds a Masters degree in Dance from UCLA and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.   She is married to someone who makes her laugh and is the mother of two boys.

Since the birth of her first child, Nona has gravitated towards an Iyengar approach, while maintaining an Ashtanga practice.  The combination of the precision and yoga-as-therapy of the Iyengar system and the flow and rhythm of Ashtanga have helped her to heal old injuries, reclaim her physical body, and improve her mental and emotional state.  Nona’s classes reflect this combination.  Nona’s teaching style has been described as straightforward, educational and fun.  She feels incredibly privileged to be able to share her passion for yoga with students of all levels.
